Founder Dorothy Alexander Muccilli began Healing Art Works as a personal mission. When her older sister was battling cancer, they joked during countless hospital visits how refreshing it would be to see original artwork in the rooms instead of prints. This was the motivation for our non-profit, founded in the summer of 2005.
Our first project, Project 2006: The Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, culminated in the donation of more than 40 pieces for the Women's Health Center. Donating artists live nationwide, and their works feature a variety of media including acrylic, watercolor, oil, photography, pastel, and fabric.
Project 2007 benefits The Children Hospital of Philadelphia. Ranked as the #1 children's hospital in the nation by booth U.S. News & World Report and Child magazines, the hospital provides a rich and diverse artistic experience for it's patients and their families. Formed in late 2006, an internal art commitee seeks to introduce more original artwork throughout the hospital's existing and expanding patient and piblic spaces. When Healing Art Works approached the hospital this year, we were unaware of this endeavor. The hospital's commitment to embrace the power of the original art is the complement to our mission.
We are reaching out to the national artistscommunity for continued support through donations of original art. We hope to provide the hospital with an art collection diverse in media, subject matters, and levels of artisitic expertise.
Efforts to secure a hospital for Project 2008 are under way. We hope to announce an institution early next year. Through the generosity of fellow artists, we are confident we will continue to exceed out goals and the expectations of the heathcare communities with whom we work.
