Amaco No. 77 Terra Cotta Earthenware Clay is made from a mixture of finely ground clays, medium ground clays and grog making it more forgiving and an large pieces may be reduced without cracking due to shock. The coarse formula allows air that may be trapped to be easily released making it an excellent red clay for Raku. Excellent for throwing of large pieces, hand building of any size, even large outdoor sculptures, without the fear of slumping.
Bisque fire to Cone 04 (1971ºF, 1077ºC). Amaco No. 77 fires from Cone 06-5 (1855ºF-2205ºF), with a recommended glaze firing of Cone 5 (2205ºF). At Cone 04, the clay is a terra cotta color with a shrinkage of 6.75% and absorption of 9%. At Cone 5, the color is a rich brown-red with a shrinkage of 10.5% and absorption of 0.9%.
This 50 lb. box includes two 25 lb. blocks of clay, each in a polyethylene storage bags, so feel free to use the amount required and store the rest for future use. Clay in moist form presents no hazard.
