Each watercolor stick is dipped in a single layer of water-soluble paraffin wax for protection during transit and to protect your hands while working. To remove this thin outer layer of wax, rub the stick surface on a scrap piece of paper, or wash the stick with warm water, similar to removing paraffin wax from an apple. The tip of the watercolor sticks are ready for use out of the box.

Sepia - Sepia is a deep purplish brown and was developed to match the color of ink from cuttlefish, which was the traditional source. Sepia has reddish tones associated with the Renaissance drawings that often faded from the natural color.
