Expand your possibilities! This class challenges the artist with fascinating techniques that allows new dimensions for artistic expression. You will be introduced to cutting-edge materials (as well as some ways to incorporate surprisingly common materials) and methods to create fantastic textural painting surfaces. These techniques may be used for realistic as well as abstract work. Expand your vocabulary by developing a special effects repertoire that goes far beyond using salt to create “snow”! Learn techniques for creating textures, glazing, combining watercolors and acrylics, dimensional painting, adding collage, resurrecting “duds” and more. Cathy will help you define your own individual style and uniqueness. There will be informative demos, lots of painting time, and individual attention. Students should have some background in watermedia.
Cathy is an award winning mixed media artist and national workshop instructor. Her work is represented in museums, nature centers, corporate collections, and private collections throughout the US and abroad. Cathy is an exhibiting artist at Sanibel Art and Frame on Sanibel, FL, The Nature of Art Gallery in St. petersburg, FL, and Main Street Art Gallery in Blowing Rock, NC. She has studied with well known artists including Mary Todd Beam, Carole Barnes, and Frank Webb. Cathy’s work was represented by a licensing agent in NY City who secured rights for a fine art print of a collage to be distributed nationwide. She has written the newspaper column “Art Directions” and her articles and art have been featured in “Cloth, Paper, Scissors”, a nationally distributed art magazine, and she was the 2000 winner of the Robert Rauschenberg award. Cathy is a member of the The High Country Watercolor Society (President), the National Watercolor Society, The International Society of Experimental Artists (award winner), and the National Collage Society (award winner).
