The purpose of this workshop is for artistic enrichment, creative rejuvenation, and spiritual renewal. Through group dynamics and fellowship, it ultimately contributes to individual growth. Mr. Chee shares his creative experiences with the students but doesn’t impose his personal viewpoints upon them. He explains the philosophy and principles behind his creativity, demonstrates his concepts and process, helps sharpen perception of abstract qualities, explores the possibility of synthesizing the East and West approaches, and more importantly, guides the participants to develop in their own direction. The workshop will stress flexibility, fun, fellowship, and the spirit of caring and cooperation. The schedule will include: a traditional approach, saturated wet process, improvisational approach, crinkling technique, and marbling and monoprinting. Each day begins with a demonstration to explain a different concept and process, and then individual work time with one-on-one instruction. This workshop is sure to sell out very early.
Cheng-Khee Chee, Associate Professor Emeritus of the University of Minnesota, is a Signature member of the American Watercolor Society (Dolphin Fellow), National Watercolor Society, and many others. His work has won over 200 honors, including gold and silver medals. He has made numerous contributions to books and magazines, as well as written and illustrated several books. He has a 6 volume instructional DVD set, also on the market. Chee is a very popular workshop instructor and national show juror. His breakthrough in concepts and processes have greatly influenced the direction of watermedia painting. Chee’s ultimate goal in painting is to achieve the essence of Tao, the state of effortless creation. He hopes to produce paintings that will be neither East nor West, realism nor abstraction, but contain all elements that communicate on a universal and timeless level.
