Watercolor: Design and the Creative Process

Fred’s diverse approach to painting in addition to thirty-seven years of teaching experience enables him to further advance each student’s style of painting. Placing emphasis on composition and design, students will explore a number of different, innovative approaches for developing a watercolor painting. Through a series of exercises, lectures, and demonstrations, students will understand the importance of design and the freedom of expression. Fred states: “When an artist understands the basic principles and elements of design, the subject matter becomes unlimited. It is essential that students go beyond the level of just recording facts.” The course will be beneficial to both traditional and contemporary watercolorists.

Frederick is one of the foremost watercolor instructors of today, and is a signature member of all three major watercolor societies: AWS, NWS, and TWSA, “Master Status”. He has received over 80 national, regional, and state awards of recognition. Fred received his BS degree in Art Education at Miami University and has since been conducting numerous watercolor workshops throughout the United States and abroad for the last thirty-seven years. His work has been featured in “Watercolor Techniques for Releasing the Creative Spirit”, “Creative Watercolor Workshop”, and “International Artist”, in addition to other publications.
