Participants will work for a full week with nationally recognized mixed media expert, Sean Dye. Many of the techniques explored come from Sean’s work in his book “The Mixed-Media Sourcebook”, Watson-Guptill, 2004. Students of all experience levels will feel at home in this hands-on exploration of age-old traditional oil paints as well as the new water-soluble oils. Sean has written the only book on these exciting paints: “Painting with Water-Soluble Oils”, North Light, 2001. Using original work and demonstrations, Sean will lead the class through several of his favorite combinations of sketching and under-painting mediums on a variety of supports. Please bring sketches or reference materials for 5 days of painting.
In addition to teaching painting at the University of Vermont for 18 years, Sean Dye has led popular workshops on oil, pastel and mixed-media throughout North America, and has judged many exhibitions. He received his MFA from Pratt Institute. Sean’s paintings are in private collections and commercial galleries throughout the US. They have appeared in “The Artist’s Magazine”, “International Artist Magazine”, “Pastel Artist International” and “Pastel Journal”. Sean is the founder of the Vermont Pastel Society. He is the Author of “Painting With Watersoluble Oils”, and “The Mixed-Media Sourcebook”. He also appears in Caroline Jasper’s book, “Powercolor” and North Light’s, “Painting the Elements: Weather Effects 2006”. He has made two instructional DVDs on oil painting. Sean lives and paints in St. George, VT.
