Tony is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society and a popular workshop instructor. Painting exclusively in watercolor, van Hasselt teaches plein air landscape workshops in the US and abroad. He grew up in the Netherlands and worked in display and graphic design prior to arrival in the US. While attending art school in NY, he organized workshops taught by artists whose work he admired. As one of the earliest pioneers in the workshop field, his idols, John Pike, Edgar A. Whitney, Robert E. Wood, Tom Hill, Milford Zornes and Rex Brandt became his mentors and friends. Tony wrote the book, “Outdoor Watercolor Workshop”; co-authored “The Watercolor Fix-it Book”, and is featured in several other art books. He is a regular contributor to art magazines and has produced several instructional DVD’s.
