Taking The Mystery Out of Watercolor

This workshop focuses on answering many of the questions that watercolor artists constantly ask. Why is my work muddy? Why does my painting look washed out? Why doesn’t my composition look right? How do I begin this painting? How can I loosen up? Spend five days with Sterling and get the answer to these and many other questions. He will not only answer them, but will demonstrate his approach to dealing with these problems. Each morning, Sterling will do a complete painting, with the style varying from day to day. Questions during the demos are encouraged. After lunch everyone will work on their own painting with Sterling’s assistance as needed. Sterling was born in Kansas City, Missouri in 1951. When he was twelve, he took oil painting classes and began experimenting with other mediums. In 1985 he began studying watercolors and met watercolor master Zoltan Szabo in 1987. Sterling was heavily influenced by Zoltan’s loose, interpretive style of painting with large flat brushes and developed his own style of rich values and expressive colors using large brushes. Today Sterling’s watercolors are collected worldwide and he is represented by several galleries in the US and Canada. In 2007 Sterling was elected as a Signature Member of the Canadian Society of Painters in Watercolour, an international organization recognizing those who have mastered transparent watercolors. www.sterlingedwards.com
