In “Optimizing the Studio Experience” oil artist Andy Braitman takes the viewer through the eight stages of producing a painting in his Charlotte, NC studio. Filmed before a live student audience, this DVD is not so much a standard “step-by-step” teaching presentation as it is a real-life “ride-along” with a successful working artist. Primarily a landscape artist, Braitman engagingly describes his painting process from beginning to end and works the detail information about brushes, colors, composition and technique into 5 distinct stages. After the “wrap-up”, the viewer can forward the DVD into the bonus section that features an enlightening group discussion. During this portion, Andy answers questions in detail about his color mixing, his push/pull brush technique and compositional directives. Braitman’s instruction skews to the intermediate and advanced student and is not one that you will watch once and file away. His work has been featured in
galleries and in one-man and group shows in Santa Fe, Chicago, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C. He attended the University of Maryland, and it was there that he discovered a true passion for art. Andy has been an
Artist in Residence for Edgecombe and Mitchell
Counties in North Carolina. In those roles he has been guest lecturer at area colleges, conducted workshops, judged art competitions, and participated in public art projects. Braitman Studio was opened in Charlotte, N.C. as an art school in 1995. Running time is an amazing 2 hr. and 23 min.
