Wes Waugh
Painting Bold and Controlled With Watercolor
May 28—June 1, 2012, Boone, NC

Wes Waugh PaintingWes Waugh Painting© Artwork by Wes Waugh
This workshop focuses on first, understanding and building confidence with the unique characteristics of watercolor. In doing so, you can then successfully advance in gaining an understanding of basic design principles, and open doors to personal expression. After learning to use certain principles and skills, the possibilities are endless. For example: how to use bold pigment on a moist surface without losing your shapes, creating mud, or flooding your subject right off the paper! Wes will introduce mixed-media approaches to extend your options for expression and creating visual texture. You'll gain a truckload of new knowledge, skills, and ideas, and will be motivated to see how far you can go with watercolors.

Wes Waugh

Wes Waugh

Wes began painting at age 12, has held over 10 solo exhibitions, and has served as a workshop instructor, product consultant, guest presenter, and juror for a number of art-related businesses and organizations over his 25 year painting career. Simultaneously, Wes has held a full-time teaching and administrative position at Appalachian State University, citing equal devotion to both career settings and the inability to choose one over the other. Wes's art is diverse, but rooted in the translational and design influenced watercolor masters of Eliot O'Hara and Edgar Whitney. He is well known for his bold and "colorist" approach to landscape painting. Wes has taught several workshops for Cheap Joe's since our inaugural workshops in 2000.
