We all have photos that are good, bad, out of focus, or poorly composed. In this inspiring workshop, Alexis will show you how to create exciting paintings using these photos without copying! Learn how to edit, manipulate, combine, and make imaginative changes. The result will be a painting that looks nothing like the original photo. Alexis will give daily demonstrations in watercolor, but any media you use is welcome. This class is ideal for beginning and intermediate artists who want to learn creative ways of using reference photos, or for more advanced students who would like to explore new ways to use them. Alexis will also discuss digital cameras and computer editing, but no computer is needed. The workshop will rely on good old-fashioned drawing, designing, and painting.

Alexis Lavine

Alexis, a North Carolina artist, holds art degrees from the University of Maryland and Johns Hopkins. She is a Signature member of the National Association of Women Artists and several other art organizations. She has taught watercolor and drawing for over 20 years, traveling across the US and to the Caribbean, to do so. She teaches a painting workshop in St. Croix every winter, and in 2008 was Artist-in-Residence at the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts. One of Alexis's paintings has been published in the Island Art & Soul 2011 calendar produced by the CMCA in the Virgin Islands. Her art will also be included in Splash 13, scheduled for publication in June 2012. Her paintings reside in collections throughout the United States and overseas, and can be seen in galleries from the mid-Atlantic to the Virgin Islands.
