You will be working from a different, live, clothed model each day, and will complete a painting for each, except on Friday, which will be a class critique. The model will be posed with props and clothing to create figure paintings with great color and strong design. Roberta paints upright, using an easel, and will give a demonstration each morning, followed by individual help and guidance in the afternoon. It helps if the student has had some experience drawing the figure or using watercolors, along with a strong desire to learn. Have fun while learning to paint realistic portraits and figures in watercolors. Spaces are very limited in this class to allow for ample individual attention.

Roberta Carter Clark

Nationally recognized professional portrait painter and author, Roberta Clark, is an outstanding teacher. Her infectious enthusiasm and boundless energy demonstrates the techniques that have brought her a long list of acclaims, awards, and commissions. Roberta’s book “How to Paint Living Portraits”, published by North Light Books, was reprinted in 2011 as a “North Light Classic”, and her other book, “Painting Vibrant Children’s Portraits” is out of print, but is available through Amazon. She also has two instructional DVDs: “Prelude to Portraits” and “A Portrait in Watercolor”. Roberta’s work has also appeared in seven books and several issues of prominent Art magazines. She has juried both state and national exhibitions and has taught workshops all over the U.S. Roberta has made her home in New Jersey since 1955, after being born in St. Louis, and growing up in Wisconsin.
