Artist Oil Mediums
What do you need an oil medium for? As you know oil painting is all about "fat over lean"! If you are using all of your oil paints right out of the tube, they are all fat. They are all nice, rich buttery colors… none of them are lean. That’s what your mediums are for.
There are bunches of different mediums to choose from. The oil mediums are to be used to thin your paints to create those lean layers for your under painting. There are also mediums that will alter the drying time of your oil paint. (Some to slow down the drying if you are painting with tons of paint of the surface and some to speed the drying up.) There are also some that can help you thin your paint without tons of smelly fumes. No matter what your painting situation you are in, there is an oil painting medium for that!
Make sure to browse this section of the web site for the perfect oil painting medium for your art supplies and the way you paint. Maybe two?
