Creative Realism in Watercolor DVD with Tony van Hasselt. Tired of those realistically painted scenes? On this art video Tony converts a line drawing into a pattern sketch by deciding the light direction and then, with a mid-value gray color, paints the shadows and dark shapes to make the scene "readable". Next, Tony shows his method of creating non-objective underpaintings on which almost anything can be superimposed. To prove the point, the same scene, this time painted on clear acetate is placed over several underpaintings with amazing results. Finally he takes an underpainting and on it, paints the subject in full color, to demonstrate the approach. But wait! There's more! Van Hasselt then makes you aware of the importance of negative shape. Another underpainting is used to coax an autumn scene into existence, while a gallery of Tony's creative examples completes this art DVD. 82 minute art instruction video.
