In separate start-to-finish paintings, Caroline demonstrates three popular opaque mediums: traditional oils, acrylics, and water-soluble oils. She explains the benefits and challenges specific to each and offers practical tips for getting the best results no matter which medium you choose.
Caroline begins on canvas pre-coated with color gesso specifically selected to contrast with the dominant colors in each painting’s subject. This sets the stage for exciting visual interactions between paint colors. She utilizes the ground color as a barrier between paint applications, thus preventing any unwanted color mixing or muddying. Caroline defines important differences between real color vs. wheel color as a guide to appropriate color decision making while painting. Her dual-hue palette concept points to universal applications in any medium. Throughout this DVD, Caroline repeatedly applies theory to practice as she explains the logic of every color choice.
With an MFA from Maryland Institute College of Art, Caroline Jasper’s instruction stands on forty years of experience including high school Art Department Chair, Maryland College of Art and Design Admissions Advisory Board member, exhibition juror, gallery and college lecturer. She currently teaches at art workshop venues nationwide. Caroline’s paintings, which are critically acclaimed in gallery and museum exhibitions, are held in private and corporate collections internationally.
