Since mid of the 18th century a mixture of gamboge gum, Prussian blue and partly indigo was used for water colour painting. Today the tone is achieved by lightfast pigments. Since 1881, Schmincke Horadam Aquarelle watercolours has developed its outstanding reputation for using only the highest quality natural gums, resins and pigments.
