In this art workshop you will discover that just as a cheetah is able to focus on one single zebra in a stampeding blur of stripes and dust, artists must learn to focus their artistic vision and decision-making on selected parts of their subject to the exclusion of everything else. Watercolors are mostly about emotion. By working the middle values, you guide the viewer’s eye to where you want it to go, increasing the emotional impact and depth. In this workshop, David Rankin will train you in this art class with his Observation & Evaluation Skills for correct color values, in how to build a better illusion of spatial depth by using one of 6 different painting recipes for placing the darkest darks in your paintings, and in how to create masterful middle values for maximum emotional impact.
David’s award-winning watercolors are in public and private collections in the US and India, have been featured in more than 125 museum exhibitions, are included in the North Light’s series– Splash: The Best of Watercolor, and Strokes of Genius: The Best of Drawing, and in numerous art magazines. He promotes conservation and appreciation of the natural world through his paintings, and has served on the board of the Society of Animal Artists since 1990, having won their top award 4 times. David is one of the true modern-day masters of transparent watercolor, exuding a dynamic passion for the medium in his lectures, demonstrations, and workshop instruction. His art reflects his profound passion for both watercolor and nature, as he feels a connection with the subjects he paints.
