Josef Horadam, a co-founder of the Schmincke company, received a patent in 1892 for the special watercolour formulas he invented, and from that point HORADAM® was known as „Schmincke’s patent colours“. Over the course of time, the number of colour formulations was increased to meet artists’ needs, and new pigments were included whenever colour permanence or colour quality could be improved. Because other so-called „professional“ water-colour pans are actually punched or pressed from a semi-dry dough, additional stabilizers must be added to the watercolour formula, and the outcome is a hard tablet which must be scrubbed before it will relinquish any pigment. HORADAM¨ AQUARELL possess excellent spreading capacity and are completely usable after drying on the palette. They feature the patented wetting agent system that ensures that the flow of colour remains easily controllable, even on soft watercolour papers. All HORADAM¨ AQUARELL watercolours are labeled according to lightfastness, translucence, opacity and staining capacity.
