Winsor & Newton Liquin Mediums thin oil and alkyd paints, speed in drying time and offer an increased resistance to yellowing. These durable mediums improve the flow of oil paints, increase gloss and are ideal for glazing techniques. Winsor & Newton Liquin is one of the most popular and commonly used oil painting mediums available to artists today.
Liquin Fine Detail - This quick drying, gloss medium is ideal for fine details, glazing and blending. Liquin Fine Detail produces a smooth surface picture leaving no brush marks allowing your oil painting to dry to a beautiful gloss finish reminiscent of a Van Eyck or Dￃﾼrer. Liquin Fine Detail approximately halves the drying time of oil paint, depending on the proportions added. This medium is touch-dry in one to five days, depending on the climate, colors used and film weight. It is the modern alternative to traditional copal mediums that were based on natural resins, which offered fast-drying properties to artists. Liquin Fine Detail is not suitable as a varnish or final coat.
Liquin Impasto - This oil medium will reduce drying time and improve flow, allowing your oil paintings to dry to a semi-gloss finish. Liquin Impasto is specifically designed for retaining brush strokes and texture in your painting without any visible leveling. It also extends tube color, provides bulk, and allows more blending time. When dry, Liquin Impasto forms a tough and flexible film that can be varnished in the normal way and may be used for heavier brush work or palette knives. Liquin Impasto is not suitable as a varnish or final coat.
Liquin Light Gel - This Liquin formulation offers a slight gel that breaks down on brushing (thixotropic) and flows out to give a non-drip effect when mixed with oil color. Liquin Light Gel dries to a gloss film that has an increased resistance to yellowing. This oil medium offers all the handling properties traditionally seen with the historic Megilp mediums but without the tendencies to crack and yellow which are normally associated with mastic mediums. It provides looser handling such as is seen in a Rubens or Gainsborough painting. Ideal for glazing, Liquin Light Gel will allow your oil paintings to dry to a gloss finish. Not suitable as a varnish or final coat.
Liquin Original - Liquin Original is a general purpose low gloss medium which improves flow and transparency. It mixes easily with the brush or knife and smoothes brushwork. Liquin Original approximately halves the drying time of oil paints, depending on the proportions added. This medium is touch-dry in one to five days, depending on the climate, colors used and film weight. Liquin Original resists yellowing and is ideal for glazing techniques. Not suitable as a varnish or final coat.
