Joe's Quotes
Art ain’t easy but it’s worth it.
The toughest part of a painting is getting started.
Avoid straight lines. They're boring.
Painting has a lot of "sinking" stages, where you think, "Oh, I've just ruined it!" But that's just because you're not finished yet!
No man is completely useless. He can always serve as a poor example.
No one HAS to like my art, but it feels better when someone does!
I'd like to be unique... just like everyone else.
Sometimes a blank canvas is a napkin and a studio is a restaurant.
Fill up the wells of your palette, watercolorists! Little dabs in your wells mean more time unscrewing caps and adding more little dabs.
When you’re not really happy with a painting - that’s the time to experiment... it can’t get any worse.
Squint more. It helps you to see problems with your values. All colors run together and you’re able to see where your painting needs help.
No one HAS to like my work. -- But it makes me feel a little better when someone does!
In 1992, I quit my job as a pharmacist because in 1985 I sowed a little seed into a passion for making art. Because I was so "Cheap", I could not bear to spend crazy sums of money to purchase my art supplies from a store an hour's drive down the road. So, I purchased my supplies in bulk, wholesale, and started a little company in the corner of the drugstore. And, I employed my family to come pick orders after they got off school. I envisioned a brand that was equal parts inspiration and peace of mind, and a store with reasonable prices.
Making art is simply a matter of momentum. You just have to get started...
Real friends are those who, when you've made a fool of yourself, don't feel you've done a permanent job.
Bob Burridge once told me, "If you must have predictable results, be a brain surgeon, not an artist."
You know you're an artist if you've cleaned your paint brush in your coffee cup.
A simple trick for dynamic painting or drawing -- make your subject touch three sides of the canvas.
We want you to be 100% satisfied. That means completely happy with your purchase and our service. We stand by that.
Bump up the contrast to immediately transform your artwork. Paying attention to your highlights, mid tones, and shadows increases depth and visual interest of your work.
