Leslie Snipes was born and raised in Lancaster SC. She earned her Bachelors of Fine Art from Appalachian State University in Boone NC, and went on to earn her Masters of Fine Art in Drawing and Painting from the University of Georgia in Athens. She then taught college courses such as painting, drawing, color theory, and photography at UGA, Emory University in Atlanta, and Wesleyan University in CT before deciding to return to Athens GA and live a simpler life. There, she managed Athens’ local art supply store where her real fascination with art supplies began. That fascination continues at Cheap Joe’s where she gets to play with all the new samples and write about art supplies on the website, developing content and images.
Snipes’ artwork has been exhibited in the Northeast and Southeast, and can be found in the collections of the High Museum of Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia, and the Davison Art Center at Wesleyan University, among others. Her artwork is minimalist in philosophy and style, concerned with paring down to the essentials and using an economy of means. The process of making the work is crucial to the point of the work, and is often repetitive in order to induce a meditative state of mind.
